The Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, today issued the following statement:

"As Minister responsible for VIA Rail, I have accepted Mario Peloquin's resignation from the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 15, 2026, in order to enjoy retirement after a 41-year career in the industry. I would like to thank Mario for his dedication and commitment to VIA Rail over the past two and a half years, and I wish him continued success in his future endeavours."
