FedDev Ontario invests $1 million to advance modular and prefabricated housing solutions

Across Canada, innovators are transforming how homes are built-introducing solutions that cut construction times, improve affordability, and reduce environmental impact. The Government of Canada is committed to supporting these leaders as they modernize the housing sector and deliver the homes Canadians need.
Today, Bruce Fanjoy, Member of Parliament for Carleton, on behalf of the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for EkoBuilt (an operating name for Kealey Tackaberry Homes Ltd.) in Dunrobin to celebrate the rapid installation of a new Passive House prefabricated structure. During the event, he announced a Government of Canada investment of $1 million for EkoBuilt to acquire advanced equipment for a southern Ontario prefabrication facility dedicated to high-performance, energy-efficient construction.
This investment will support EkoBuilt to purchase and install specialized equipment and advance new production processes, as the company establishes their state-of-the-art, energy-efficient pre-fabrication facility. The company's upgraded facility will produce advanced, pre-fabricated wall and roof panels that meet leading environmental standards such as Passive House and NetZero, while cutting manufacturing time and material waste during the construction phase in half. Optimized for North American climates, these ready-made panels can be easily used by builders and developers and can be adapted for many types of housing, including single-family homes, multi-unit residences, apartments, and townhomes.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, EkoBuilt unveiled the rapid installation of a new Passive House building envelope. The structure of the home, which was constructed in an accelerated timeframe, showcases that factory-built, energy-efficient housing can make sustainable living achievable across the country.
